Week One Recap & Preview
PENDLETON, Ore. - With the Timberwolves hitting the road to Wenatchee before returning home for a three game homestand. We recap the first two games of the season and preview the next two games.
Recap
The Timberwolves had two tough opponents last week, the Yakima Valley Yaks and the Walla Walla Warriors. The men’s team was the sole victors of the weekend, as they picked up a good quality win against the Yaks on Wednesday night at the MAC for the first win in over seven years.
Wednesday was the home opener of NWAC East Region play for the Timberwolves as they faced off against Yakima Valley. The women’s team fought a hard battle but lost in a close game 58-54, backed by Leanna Lepe’s 24 points.
The men’s team had more success that night as they won in a heated matchup against the Yaks 91-81. Three Timberwolves were in double figures, Ajani Jamison with 19 points while shooting 50% from the field, Dionte Hill with 22 points along with 8 assists, and lastly Kaden Johnson with 26 points while shooting 57% from beyond the arc.
Saturday’s game was all Warriors as Walla Walla took both games against the Timberwolves. The women’s team took a heavy loss and will look to improve this next week as the men’s game results was also a loss and will look to improve this next week.
Preview
The Timberwolves are in action again this week for some more NWAC East Region play, as they go on the road to take on the Knights of Wenatchee Valley and finish at home on Saturday by going up against the Sasquatch of Spokane.
On the women’s side, the Knights come in with a 7-6 record and 0-2 in East Region play. The freshman guard Lilli Schmitt leads all scores with 17.7 points a game. On the men’s side, Wenatchee Valley comes in with a 5-12 overall record and 0-2 in East Region play. Sophomore guard Eamon Monahan leads all Knights scoring with 21.2 points per game.
Flipping over to the home game on Saturday against the Sasquatch, on the women’s side the Sasquatch sit at a 6-6 record and 1-1 in East Region play. Sophomore guard Jada Clarkson leads all scorers with 14.1 points per game. Switching over to the men’s side now, Spokane rolls in with a 14-3 record and 1-1 in East Region play. Sophomore guard Zack Reighard leads the line with 24.7 points per game.
