BMCC Basketball Preview
PENDLETON, Ore. - Your Timberwolves basketball teams are at home for an action-packed week. Your Timberwolves start the week going up against the Yaks of Yakima Valley and finish up the weekend with a rivalry game as they go on the road to take on the Warriors of Walla Walla.
The women’s basketball team has had a very heavy start in their campaign as they sit 4-7, with wins against Mount Hood, Pierce, and Portland. They have also gone up against the reigning NWAC champions, the Lane Titans twice. Leanna Lepe leads the scoring for your Timberwolves with 10.5 points per game while shooting 35% from the field and 33% from the three-point line. Freshman, dual-sport athlete Brooke McHaffie has been a staple on the defensive end, averaging 6.3 rebounds a game as well as 1.4 steals a game.
The men’s basketball team has had a solid start but recently found themselves in a 7 game skid. Before the losing streak, they found themselves with a 5-3 record, with their wins against Portland, Pierce, Centralia, Edmonds, and Whatcom. One of the new additions to the team, Ajani Jamison leads all scoring for your Timberwolves with 19.5 points per game while shooting 41% from the field and 32% from the three-point line. The guard pairing of Dionte Hill and Kaden Johnson leads the Timberwolves in rebounds, with Hill averaging 6.7 rebounds while Johnson is averaging 6.3 rebounds a game.
Your Timberwolves look to start conference play with a huge win against Yakima Valley. The women’s team comes in with a 5-8 record and their top scorer is Freshman guard Madisen King. The Timberwolves have played the Yaks this season at the Blue Mountain Jamboree. The men’s team comes in with a 6-6 record and their top scorer is Sophomore guard Jaxson Goldsmith. This will be the first meeting this year for the Blue Mountain men against the Yaks.
Flipping to the end of the week game against the Warriors, the women’s team comes in with a 10-4 record and their leading scorer is Brielle Magnuson. The Timberwolves have previously faced the Warriors at the Blue Mountain Jamboree. The men’s team comes in with an 11-3 record and their leading scorer is Trey Arland. This is the first matchup of the year between the Timberwolves and the Warriors.
