BMCC Basketball Weekend Recap
PENDLETON, Ore. - Your Timberwolves basketball teams played a full slate this weekend. The BMCC women’s team faced off against the Portland Panthers on Friday, the Pierce Raiders on Saturday, and Sunday they faced off against the defending NWAC champions the Lane Titans. Your Blue Mountain men’s team only had one game as they faced off against the Pierce Raiders to end off a basketball Saturday at the MAC.
Your Timberwolves Women’s team started the weekend with a hard-fought win against the Portland Panthers, the score being 64 to 58.
Portland is coming off a loss on November 19th against South Puget Sound, they looked to balance back. They entered the contest against your Timberwolves only having 6 active players, as they were dealing with injuries. Your Timberwolves found themselves up 33-32 off of a strong first-half performance by Brooke McHaffie as she tallied 6 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds. She was followed by Leanna Lepe with 5 first-half points. Going into the fourth quarter the Timberwolves found themselves up 52 to 46, with Brooke McHaffie continuing her strong performance with 6 3rd quarter points. The 4th quarter stayed at a consistent level of competitiveness as the Timberwolves found themselves on the winning side for the first time in this early season. Brooke McHaffie led all scorers on the Timberwolves in points(14) and rebounds (10).
Saturday was the first double header of the year as both BMCC basketball teams faced off against the Raiders of Pierce College.
Your Women’s basketball team showed out as they beat the Raiders with a convincing win of 82 to 53. The first quarter your Timberwolves started off hot with sophomores Kyella Picard and Leanna Lepe with 6 points respectively, with their fellow sophomore Jillian Herres with 5 points to put the Timberwolves up 29-9 after one quarter. The second quarter was another blowout by the Timberwolves, with freshman Atira Moore scoring 8 points and Leanna Lepe adding to her strong start with 5 more 2nd Quarter points. The rest of the game was finished out by the Timberwolves as they convincingly beat the Raiders 82 to 53.
Your Men’s basketball was at home for the first time this season and they showed out in true Timberwolves fashion as they beat the Raiders 80 to 65 with strong showings by sophomore Kaden Johnson and freshman Dionte Hill. The first half was closely contested as the Timberwolves only held a two point lead going into the break coming off of Kaden Johnson’s 9 first half points and Dionte Hill’s 8 points. Your Timberwolves then found their groove coming out of the break as they put up 47 second-half points. Kaden Johnson led all scores with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and added 3 steals as well. Dionte Hill had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 block.
The final game of this long weekend was against the defending NWAC champions Lane Titans, and this was one to forget for the Timberwolves. Your Timberwolves ended up losing 84 to 35 and they look to quickly move on from it. Brooke McHaffie continued her strong weekend as she scored 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds coming off of the bench. Hailey Taylor added 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The next action for your Men’s basketball team is this Friday, November 29th as they face off against Lower Columbia at 7:00 PST. The Women’s team faces off against South Western Oregon at Yakima Valley on December 6th game starting at 5:00 PST.
