The Wolfies - End of the Year Awards Show

 

PENDLETON, Ore. - The end of the 2022-23 athletics year has come and with that comes the annual end of the year awards show called, The Wolfies. BMCC athletics honors our incredible student-athletics and all their success on and off the field/court/arena each year. Along with the awards given out to each team, for the first time in school history we were able to honor a member of each team who was selected for the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) academic excellence award for outstanding academic achievement and the NWAC all-region award winners in which every team had one representative. We want to thank all of our Timberwolves for their time and effort as we wrap up the 2022-23 school year! Below is a recap of the 2022-23 Wolfie Awards.

 

NWAC Academic Excellence & Leadership

To be chosen for this award, student-athletes must have 60+ credits during their time at BMCC and have maintained a cumulative GPA of a 3.25-3.49 (Academic Excellence) or a 3.5 and above (Academic Leadership). Those recognized are:

 

Academic Excellence - Jaelyn Brainard (WBB), Gwynn Razo (WBB), Aengus Gilligan (BB), and Ellie Acord (WBB)

 

Academic Leadership - Emma Barclay (VB), Autumn Daggett (VB), Maysa Haws (VB), Kenzie Williams (VB), Madelline McClain (VB), Aeryn Elder (WS), Mackenzie Bingham (MS), Williams Dominguez (MS), McKaylee Orton (WBB), Kash Lang (MBB), Byron Patt (MBB), Nathan Beath (BB), Jarret Mink (BB), Zack Walsh (BB), and Tommy Whiles (BB).

 

NWAC All-Region

To be chosen for this award, the student-athlete must have demonstrated skill and stats to back up being chosen by other coaches within the NWAC east region. For volleyball and soccer, those chosen for first team are then chosen for the NWAC all-star game. Those that received this award are:

 

Volleyball - Kenzie Williams (Sophomore all-star) and Alliyah Stevens (2nd team all east region)

Men's Soccer - William Dominguez (1st team midfielder, NWAC all-star), Anthony Lemus (1st team goalkeeper, NWAC all-star), and Cristian Rea (1st team forward, NWAC all-star)

Women's Soccer - Ryane Mattox (1st team forward, NWAC all-star)

Men's Basketball - Chad Napoleon (1st team all east region)

Women's Basketball - Jaelyn Brainard (2nd team all east region)

Softball - Avyree Miethe (2nd team all east region)

Baseball - Davis Mauzy (2nd team all east region) and Brody Rasmussen (2nd team all east region)

 

National Intercolligate Rodeo Association - Northwest Region All-Around

Two Timberwolves were recognized and awarded with the NIRA Northwest Region All-Around titles at their home rodeo on April 28th & 29th, 2023. They had secured enough wins and points to win the titles and officially book their tickets to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY in June. Congratulations to Coy Aldrich (Men's All-Around Champion) and Kennedy Buckner (Women's All-Around Champion) on their amazing seasons.

 

Heart of the Pack

The Heart of the Pack is given to one student-athlete per team who exemplifies all that a BMCC Timberwolf should be. With great work ethic and success both in the classroom on the field/court/arena. This award is given to the unsung hero of the team: The winners are Emma Barclay (Volleyball), Seanee Still (Women's Soccer), Jesus Ruiz Alvarez (Men's Soccer), Kash Lang (Men's Basketball), Sydney Moore (Women's Basketball), Zack Walsh (Baseball), Gracie Hamilton (Softball), Cord Gomes (Men's Rodeo), and Taylor Jones (Women's Rodeo).

 

Fan of the Year

Every year BMCC Athletics recognizes our Fan of the Year. Someone who exemplifies the characteristics of what BMCC Athletics is all about. The winner is Brandon Martin, the voice of the Timberwolves and play-by-play and PA announcer. Brandon has been with BMCC Athletics for 5 years and has not missed a match/game or any sporting event. Brandon truly represents the best of BMCC Athletics.

 

The Riley Freeman Memorial Award

The Riley Freeman Memorial Award is given in honor of the first BMCC rodeo coach, Riley Freeman. The winner must meet a list of criteria to be selected which are as follows:

 

  1. Demonstrates character & conduct on and off the arena
  2. Demonstrates high motivation & integrity. Treats all teammates with respect.
  3. Shows good sportsmanship.
  4. Overall performance, statistics, leadership, and awards.
  5. Sophomore Status
  6. Grade Point Average - 3.0 or above and must be in good standing with the college.
  7. Earning a BMCC degree.
  8. Contining their education at a university.

This years winner as chosen by the rodeo coaches is Cord Gomes. Congratulations!

 

Supporter of the Year

The Supporter of the Year is given to an individual(s) that have helped support and enourage our student-athletes. Our 2023 Supporter of the Year is Richard Smutz and Jared Escudero from the BMCC maintenance department who have helped keep McCrae Activity Center and all of our facilities in the best condition possible. Thank you Richard and Jared!

 

Academic Team of the Year

The Academic Team of the Year is given to the team who collectively displays the importance of being a student-athlete at BMCC. As a team, their GPA's are averaged to create a team GPA and measured against all other athletic teams at Blue Mountain. The 2023 Academic Team of the Year is the BMCC volleyball team with a average team GPA of a 3.27. Congratulations!

 

McCrae Award - Men's & Women's Athlete of the Year

Every year one male and female student-athlete is chosen to be named the athlete of the year. The criteria to be selected are as follows:

 

  • Demonstrates character & conduct on and off the arena
  • Demonstrates high motivation & integrity. Treats all teammates with respect.
  • Shows good sportsmanship.
  • Overall performance, statistics, leadership, and awards.
  • Sophomore Status
  • Grade Point Average - 3.0 or above and must be in good standing with the college.
  • Earning a BMCC degree.
  • Contining their education at a university.

 

The winners of the McCrae Award are:

 

Men's Athlete of the Year - William Dominguez (Men's Soccer)

Women's Athlete of the Year - Emma Barclay (Volleyball)

 

 

We are so thankful to have such amazing student-athletes at BMCC and we want to say congratulations on fantastic years and seasons. We will miss you all and have a great summer!
