Aubin and Wolves Get Overtime Thriller Over Warriors

PENDLETON, Ore. - The BMCC men's basketball team started off Northwest Athletic Conference east division play in style with a win over rival Walla Walla Community College in overtime at the McCrae Activity Center, led by Jaquone Gatling (28 pts, 6 reb), and Kenny Aubin (25 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast) who added 2 steals and 3 powerful NBA jam worthy dunks.

 

The Wolves trailed at halftime 54-46 as the Warriors were shooting near lights out from beyond the arch going 52% with 11 made three's in the first half. Brady Grier led all scorers in the game with 39 points and assisted 4 times with 13 rebounds. The Wolves came out of the locker room and began chipping away at the lead being down as much as 15 points at one point. Led by Westlake, Aubin, and Gatling the Wolves continued to chip away at the Warriors with Josiah Cruz making 3 3-pt shots from behind the arc as well. The Wolves then tied the game at 96-96 with 2:42 left in the game. Georgii Omelnetskii (13 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast) sank a 3-pt shot to bring the Warriors to 99-96. Josiah Cruz would then get the all important defensive rebound with 1:08 on the board to bring BMCC to the other end where the Warriors fouled Gatling who made both free throws bringing it to 99-98. Aidan Fraley would then be fouled and make the first free throw and miss the second as Gatling would rebound the ball and then be fouled on the other end of the floor as he drove into the key with :01 seconds remaining in the game. Gatling would then make both free throws to tie the game 100-100 and force overtime. 

The two teams would trade points until Conrad Dudley would make a 3-pt shot to bring it to 104-102. The Wolves would hold off the Warrior offense for several more minutes in overtime before sealing the win off two made free throws from Josiah Cruz to finish the game 112-106. 

 

BMCC improves to 3-12 overall and 1-0 in the NWAC east division conference while moving to a tie at the top of the table. The men's basketball team returns to the floor Wednesday January 10th, 2024 as they take on Yakima Valley College at home in the McCrae Activity Center in Pendleton, OR. Tip off at 7pm with the BMCC women's basketball team starting at 5pm.
