Asst. Athletic Director Brad Baker selected as Chair of NWAC East Region

PENDLETON, Ore. – Blue Mountain Community College Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Brad Baker has been selected by his peers as Chair of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) East Region. He will complete the 2019-20 term of Al Williams from North Idaho College, who is retiring, and will then serve on the NWAC’s Executive Board for the following three years.

“I am honored to be selected to serve in this position to represent the NWAC East Region and BMCC in a positive manner consistent with the NWAC values,” Baker said.

The Northwest Athletic Conference is the parent organization for 36 community colleges located in Idaho, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. The NWAC has a variety of administrative responsibilities including conference tournament management, eligibility, publications, rule enforcement and sports information.

The 36 colleges in the NWAC are divided up into four regions – North, South, East and West – with each region being represented by a Commission. Two commissioners (one male and one female) are designated by each college to serve on the regional Commission board. These roles are traditionally held by athletic directors, assistant athletic directors, coaches and other college personnel. The East Region Commission recently had an open seat for a male representative (gender representation is rotated every three years), and the current East Region Commission nominated and voted to appoint Baker to the Chair role on Oct. 7.

In addition, Timberwolves Head Softball Coach Steve Richards has taken a seat on the NWAC East Region Softball Sports Committee. BMCC Director of Athletics, Outreach & Student Life Dawn DiFuria McClendon also currently sits on the NWAC East Region Volleyball Sports Committee.
